STORY BEHIND FATMA BANDANA

Once upon a time, in the vast rose fields of Ottoman Bulgaria, there lived a young girl named Fatma Hanım. Born in the town of Zagara, she was the daughter of the most renowned rose oil producer in the region. Fatma Hanım's early days were cradled in fields of roses. Her father's lands, a sea of blossoming roses, were so vast that even the swiftest horseman would take a month to cross.

In the turbulent aftermath of the 1877-1878 Balkan War, Fatma's world was transformed. The war uprooted her from the rose gardens of her hometown, leading her to relocate to Istanbul. Throughout her life, until her final winter in 1950 in Istanbul, Fatma Hanım clung to a poignant fragment of her past: a crystal bottle filled with traditionally distilled Turkish rose oil. This bottle was not merely a vessel; it was the essence of a lost paradise, a deeply cherished and mourned heritage.

This scarf, woven in honor of Fatma Hanım, is a tribute to her and all those who hold on to their heritage, hope, and beauty. Adorned with motifs of Turkish bottles and plates, traditionally used for rose water, rose oil, and rose jam, it represents more than a garment. Wearing this scarf is to envelop oneself in a narrative of resilience, grace, and a profound bond with the roots that define us. It's more than fabric; it's a woven narrative, a timeless story as enduring as the roses themselves, echoing a past where beauty and heritage thrived amidst turmoil.
